WWE reportedly rebrands newly acquired AAA’s “NXT Mexico” brand

Just before WrestleMania 41 This past weekend, wrestling fans were shocked to learn about it. WWE has acquired AAA (Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide). The AAA brand has been a major name for Mexican laccha libre since the 1990s, but the brand could be significantly overhauled in the near future. To further strengthen the company’s own IP, WWE reportedly is considering rebranding AAA as follows: WWE NXT Mexico (via cultholic).

Longtime AAA WWE superstars include Ray Mysterio, Andrade, Penta, Ray Phoenix, Dragon Lee and Stephanie Verker. Most of them retained Championship Gold, adding an interesting layer of depth to this alliance.

Global expansion of WWE

WWE’s acquisition of AAA was a closely guarded secret that was primarily wrapped, but the company has been talking about its expansion into Mexico for quite some time. As head of NXT, Michaels bullied the international movement, saying, “We are constantly trying to grow and expand.”

The first big event to integrate AAA into WWE machines will be held on Saturday, June 7th, announced by WWE WWE NXT X AAA: Worlds Collide From Inglewood, California on the Kia Forum.
