John Cena made history last Sunday when he defeated Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 to become a 17-time world champion, but responses from wrestling fans and the media mixed in the main event, with many expressing the quality of the match, the involvement of American rapper Travis Scott and the failure of Rock to appear. Following the show, WWE Hall of Fame Eric Bischoff did not refrain from sharing his frustration with the match.
“Was it a great story? No. Was it somewhere in the middle? Yes. It was decent, but lacking emotion, so I felt that way from the beginning of this arc, and I felt it all the way through the match… I don’t know what to choke other than the other version of the ring last for John…it just didn’t connect.”
Bischoff then compared the main event match to the victory of Becky Lynch and Laila Valkyria over Rev Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez for the same night’s women’s tag team championship, claiming that Rhodes and Cena would see it and notice a flaw in their performance.
“I saw this in the women’s tag match. It was overproduced in Becky… there was so much that it really wasn’t important,” Bischoff said. “I hate having to say that. I think it’s the world of Cody and John, but when I see two people watching this match, they say, “We missed it. We missed Mark.”
