Jey Uso Vs. Gunther of WWE Wrestemania 41

6 Min Read

Jey Uso is finally about to climb his own personal Everest when he challenged Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The “Main Event” Lie, the winner of the tag title, established alongside his twin brothers, concluded his surprising breakout as “right arm” as the Roman reign “right arm” with a short stint last year and last year as Intercontinental champion.

Gunther has consistently been in the way of USO’s pursuit of singles, dating back to last February when USO sought the Intercontinental Championship. He will win the title later this year from Bron Blakeker, but Gunther was another challenge, a challenge that came during his brother’s feud with Jimmy Uso.

They met again at the King of the Rings Semi-Final in May, and Gunther once again proved a great athlete, won the tournament and secured a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. And the third time offered no appeal when USO challenged Gunther for that title in the main event on a Saturday night in January. Despite these losses, USO has returned to its fourth opportunity with the biggest show of the year trying to complete the story, so let’s take a look at what led to this point.

Gunther’s Road to WrestleMania 41

Gunther’s reign was one of his dominance over his challengers, choking Damian Priest, repeating the feats of Randy Orton in his first defense at Bash in Berlin later that month, and once again with Sami Zain, who finished his intercontinental title a few months before October.

He has been in the title for over 250 days, and the only man who has overcome him in singles action is uncontroversial WWE champion Cody Rhodes. To go beyond that, he spent most of his WWE career legally as a champion (870 days of British champion and 666 days of Intercontinental champion). To put that into perspective, at the time of writing, Gunther has been signed by the group for 2176 days since joining the company in 2019, retaining the title from the time 1793. Meanwhile, only Rhodes, Breakker, Zain and Iljadragunov managed to beat him in the title of the line.

“Ring General” completed the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and five title defenses during this reign, and is a serial defender, recording a 35-3 title belt, including a loss counted out to Chad Gable in the inter-disciplinary championship in August 2023.

Jay Uso’s Road to WrestleMania 41

The lie story is one of the repeated attempts to escape from the shadows cast by people perceived to be bigger than him. He became the first man to pin his rule in 2023, but he was ultimately able to solidify himself beyond the lineage after his brother (the recurring theme of his failures) was refused to take the title from him. When he failed the InterContinental title, he first faced Gunther and later captured it from Breakker. Lies now have his opportunity with the title that put his family matters to bed.

One of the core themes of Lie’s character as a single’s competitor is his typical underdog mentality, through layers of self-deprecation and lack of self-confidence. His question was why he couldn’t raise the flag from the start. It comes when the unfortunate spell of his tag team partner bystanders plunged an unsuspecting USO into a singles race in September 2020, in a shot in the Universal title.

That question was asked throughout his time, through his subordinate time for governance, and that is what he is ultimately trying to answer “the most epic stages of all their.” He did not just get the opportunity on a whim, but by winning matches that included the Rulers and others, and finally by eliminating John Cena in the Royal Rumble. But once again, USO asked why it wasn’t and chose “Ring General.”

Turning point with Jimmy Lies

Gunther turned down that decision in a few weeks, constantly gaining the edge in skirmishes at ringside, and attempting to hit the challenger with every opportunity he could get. His game plan was perfectly effective, USO slowly turned into a man’s shell, and with thousands of supporters, Jimmy Uso attempted to correct past mistakes in his match against the suffering of his brother.

It proves to be a turning point in the psychological and physical game where Gunther is being played. He beat Jimmy with convincingness, tied Jay to the rope before beating him bloodily, and he watched helplessly as Gunther suffocated Jimmy in the middle of the ring and wiped his blood.

But what he didn’t imagine is that he is currently dealing with a laser-focused challenger who hasn’t dealt with in all his previous matches in the Saga. In a go-home episode of “WWE Raw” on Monday, which was on display, Gunther cuts out an upset promotion centered on further punishments this weekend, and perhaps for the first time with their rivals, Gunther admits he is worried about their match. Until Saturday, speaking time appears to be over, but there is nothing left to hear except for the departure bell ring.
