Major WWE Backlash 2025 Match Plans revealed

WWE’s plans to set the major title matches at the Backlash Premium Live event on May 10th have been revealed.

After winning the 17th World Championship, which recorded Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 41 Night Two, John Cena’s new, undisputed opponent as WWE Champion was revealed in Monday Night Raw.

After following up on his claim to “smash wrestling” when he appeared in Las Vegas and became a champion, Cena was laid out in RKO of his familiar enemy, Randy Orton.

With WWE’s next PLE backlash held in Orton’s hometown in St. Louis, Missouri on May 10th, it was clear that WWE was setting up a Viper and Cena match on the show.

These plans are now confirmed courtesy of WRESTLEVOTES, with WWE planning a Cena vs. Orton Main Event Backlash, making it the first pair’s first one-on-one meeting in over eight years.

Wrestlevotes also wrote on Twitter that the match will be billed as “last time.”

This will be their first singles match since 2/11/17 when they found the house show in New Mexico.

Over 20 years of history between China and Orton at WWE is as renowned as they come, both appearing simultaneously with WWE’s previous development promotion Ohio Valley Wrestling, making their television debut in 2002 at SmackDown.

Their rivalry from the late 2000s to the early to mid 2010s has been fondly remembered by WWE fans during that time, with Orton winning three world championships behind Cena, heading for the backlash.
