WWE Hofer Scott Steiner discusses a strange promotional style

3 Min Read

For many fans, Scott Steiner remembers best for his outrageous promotions at WWE, WCW and TNA. Deducing what comes out of Steiner’s mouth on a particular night has not led to a considerable number of memorable moments over the years. Steiner recently appeared in “Wrestling Classics” and provided insights into how he first developed a promotional style at WCW.

“A lot of that was a failure or a fear of wrestling politics,” Steiner said. “They were cool guys, so I knew they had to be different to Scott Hall and Kevin Nash… And Hogan did him, so I had to do the opposite.”

Tagging his brother Rick, Scott began trying new things in his promotional job, seeing what touched WCW audiences. Soon, the live crowd began responding to the tag team with more enthusiasm than ever before. Steiner believes it in the real feelings behind his words.

“A lot of people could feel that I was upset because I was there,” Steiner continued. “You had the standards and practices you had to get. I tried to blur the lines of what you were trying to make it possible to be on TV.”

Scott Steiner on his “mathematics” promotion legacy

One of Steiner’s most beloved promotions took place at TNA, with the wrestler hyped three directions between himself, Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle. The promotion later became known by fans as Steiner Math, and the former WCW star broke down the odds to prove he would win the match. A few years later, the promotional clips circulated widely online and turned into memes.

Promotions are regularly the subject of tributes, with wrestlers such as Steiner’s ne Bron Breakker and AEW Star MJF paying tribute to Steiner Math. Steiner understands why Breakker pulls out the promotion, but when MJF referenced it he was “surprised”, but both instances entertained him.

“The promotion [stood] It’s a test of time, so it’s pretty cool. “There are times when you really don’t know what’s going to happen to the crowd.

MJF’s reference to Steiner occurred in 2023, but Breakker’s was much more recent, with former WWE Intercontinental Champion reciting the promotion prior to Wrestlemania 41. Breakker lost the title match in that event, but he joined forces with Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman to prevent Big Things from coming to Second Lestler.
