All elite wrestling partnerships with Mexican promotional CMLL will be taken to the next level in June 2025, when the two companies hold a trilogy of events at Mexican legendary arena. AEW already has many Lucadors in the book, one of which is current ROH world champion Bandido, but was originally believed to be a handful of wrestlers who were unable to compete during the summer, primarily due to the fact that he wrestled with CMLL rival AAA.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer newsletter, it appears to have changed. He reported that an agreement was made to allow Bandido on the show if CMLL wanted to have him. Arena Mexico Given that he is the ROH world champion, ROH will be involved as another brand in the Fantastica Mania Mexico event on June 20th.
The same cannot be said about the former ROH World Championship Rush. He was, at one point, the biggest star CMLL had. However, he left the company at Rocky Ground after choosing to work for the Ring of Honor on CMLL on the same day in 2019, where he and his younger brother, Dragon Lee, were fired. Meltzer pointed out that the rush back to Arena Mexico is a big deal and certainly will boost ticket sales that is already lively, but given that he was not allowed to work in last year’s prohibited door pay-per-view due to CMLL’s involvement, winning rushing in more than Arena Mexico would be a much tougher job than Arena Mexico.
Several big AEW names are expected in Mexico
In total, all elite wrestling stars are reportedly appearing in four different events from June 17th to June 21st, claiming that they have an AEW on the cards for the June 21st “Sabados Decoliso” event.
Regarding the June 18th Grand Slam Mexico event, we’re not only addressing both Kenny Omega and Will Osprey, but also the fact that the two men are taking part in the promotional poster together. Meltzer appeared in rival promotions as Omega was a part of the show, which was a huge deal in December 2021, as he was recently an AAA Mega Champion, and he was only vacant of the title due to an injury, becoming one of AAA’s biggest foreign imports in recent years. For Ospreay, he made it very clear that wrestling in the Mexican arena was his personal goal, and if he manages it, he became one of the few performers to perform at Madison Square Garden, Tokyo Dome, Wembley Stadium and Arena Mexico.
The task of getting tickers for events has been challenging because CMLL routes more than 10,000 people to Mexican shows every Friday. Tickets are reportedly being sold at a very fast rate despite the price increased due to AEW’s involvement, and the June 18 Grand Slam Mexico event not only sold out, but also one of the biggest crowds to witness the show in the Mexican arena.
