Tony Kahn calls the upcoming AEW show “one of the greatest honors of my life.”

Within just under two months, AEW will head to Mexico City and reach another historic milestone in the still relatively young history of the promotion when it hosts the “AEW Grand Slam Mexico” from the famous Arena Mexico. This is not only the first event for AEW held south of the border in collaboration with promotional partner CMLL, but it is the first time that CMLL has allowed American promotions to be exhausted from its home base.

Appearing on “Way of the Blade” last week, AEW owner Tony Khan spoke in depth about his love for “Grand Slam Mexico” and Lucha Libre. Khan realized more after being first introduced to Lucha while watching ECW and WCW as a child, and then discovered CMLL through the Death Valley Driver Video Revide website and forum in the early 2000s. Now a huge fan of style, Khan sees upcoming Arena Mexico events as a personal milestone for AEW and himself, along with other AEW/CMLL/new Japanese events scheduled for the week.

“It’s going to be really huge and personally it’s happening for me to go to Arena Mexico and promote wrestling there and become the first American wrestling company to invite CMLL to do the show…” Kahn said. “I’m very excited to see the show for the first time on Tuesday, and I’m able to make the show on Wednesday, sit in a chair and do AEW in Mexico. That’s incredible. I can’t believe I can do that.
