The 2025 Owen Hart Memorial Cup Tournament may not end until next month until doubled or nothing, but AEW’s new tournament rumble is already there. Kenny Omega answered questions from fans on his recent Twitch stream. The question spoke about what “cleaners” heard about the possibility of a mix tag team tournament in AEW.

“I keep listening sometimes, and it’s sometimes thrown between the rumblings of having mixed tag match tournaments,” Omega said. “I keep hearing about the possibility of playing this tournament, and I have thought more about what the tag team looks like. [what] What would a single look like? Someone was saying it was Mayu Iwatani, so I think it would be cool for her and someone to team up. Or someone will work with Starlight Kid. Certainly two of my favourites from Stardom for now. ”

Omega pointed out that there are countless other talents who have something special to work in the AEW tournament, including current Sendai Girls professional wrestling star Chihiro Hashimoto. At the time of this writing, AEW President Tony Kahn has not made any official words about AEW’s mixed tag team tournament.

AEW’s latest mixed tag team match took place on April 2nd. Swerve Strickland and Willow Nightingale took on AEW World Champions Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir in the opening match of “Aew Dynamite.” In the match, Nightingale sent Moxley off the table, and Strickland accidentally hit a house call with Shafir before Babyface won.
