The tallest WWE wrestler ever

18 Min Read

The importance of height in wrestling makes it easy to add the industry’s most named attraction method. Wrestlers reaching near 7 feet tall status are considered giants as they are bigger than most other wrestlers and most people see the product. Fans were drawn to promotions with the giants in the 1970s and 1980s as the industry grew.

Vince McMahon was considered the best promoter for the giants in the 1980s WWE Big men’s land. When it comes to the height aspect of monster wrestlers, some names stand out much more than others. Each of the next performers were the tallest wrestlers competing in WWE.

Sycho Sid became one of the rare wrestlers who won both the WWE Championship and WCW Championship in Monday’s Night War. The intimidating size and cool look helped Sid feel like a star before he could get over it with the audience.

Sid thrived in a new generation of age by using a size advantage over top stars Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels to feel more frightening. WCW, who signed the SID in 1999, made him the main event thanks to his size that compensated for the flaws in his ring.

One man’s gang had an underrated stint in the Golden Age, as a middle card monster heel. WWE circled one man enough to be a viable opponent against beloved faces like Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage.

The gimmick that hits the wall led to one gang adopting Akeem’s new gimmick. The horrifying concept featured Akeem as a white American who pretended to be African and played stereotypes. The character worked so hard that fans forgot that he was the biggest man in the industry at a height of 6’9”.

The 1995 King of the Ring victory shocked many fans, many who didn’t expect him to immediately lift the card from his tag team role. Mabel had some stints in WWE using his 6’9” height and a hefty weight for his advantage as a Monster.

Unfortunately, 1995’s biggest push backfired to ruin his main event chances. Big Daddy V and Viscera’s future stints saw him peak in the central scene always below. WWE began to slow down by pushing all the monster heels after Mabel flops.

Uncle Elmer joined WWE during his Golden Era and joined Hillbilly Gym as part of the Hillbillies faction. Vince McMahon loved booking big men as monster characters during this time, so Elmer had the chance to succeed given his 6’10” height.

Unfortunately, the fit didn’t pan out completely as Elmer struggled to catch up with the ring and felt like a secondary part of the group’s feud against Roddy Piper and Bob Orton. WWE released Elmer after placing King Kong Bundy in the Battle of the Giants.

Matt Morgan joins WWE in the early 2000s and hopes to become the next major big man attraction. Jim Cornett called out Morgan to the main roster and sold it as the next top star in development until he floped badly.

Carlito’s stud gimmick as an enforcer has prevented Morgan from connecting with the audience since he joined the awful comedy segment. Morgan was released earlier than expected and had a long stint in TNA as a tall giant of 6’10”, but he never met his potential by reaching the top role

WWE combined the duo of Enzo Amore and Big Cass to blend their strengths and hide each other’s flaws. Cass was 6’10” but his promotional line saw him say he’s 7 feet tall and you can’t reach his height level.

Both Enzo and Cass lost the support of the management, which led them to split and free. Cass is currently in AEW as a major bill to work with Chris Jericho on the Stable of the Learning Tree. It will be time to see whether he has achieved his full potential in AEW or hit his potential with future WWE returns.

Few wrestlers felt fashion intimidating or used their height, as Big John Stud did in the 1980s. WWE witnessed Studs get over the roles alongside the audience in various chapters of his career, from both heel and babyface roles.

Stud brought a stretcher into the ring to scare the enemy, and found it very scary as a 6’10’ monster heel. The face turn led to Stud feuding with the giant Andre after Bobby Heenan refused an invitation to join the Heenan family faction.

WWE wanted to be the scary character, The Undertaker, the man who died. The Undertaker worked hard to take advantage of his 6’10” size and the advantage of not having to sell attacks for a long time as it was part of his gimmick.

There were wrestlers taller than Undertaker became a star, but as the company changed and there were fewer big men, he was the tallest. The Undertaker size has become a strong selling point at his age, adding new moves to make it even more impressive.

After WCW concluded with an international event in Australia, the World Wrestling All-Star tried to fill the gap. Nathan Jones was found there, but the company didn’t last very long. WWE loved Jones’s appearance as an intimidating figure and hired him during a ruthless attack era.

Jones was 6’10” and jacked beyond belief to present the reliable look that Vince McMahon loved. WWE even put Jones on the storyline with The Undertaker, but fans didn’t connect with him. Work was released quickly as Jones did not play this or another on-screen role later that year.

WWE signed Kevin Nash after WCW’s unshiny WCW stint to play the new Diesel character. Shawn Michaels saw Nash as an incredible talent to play his bodyguard, and both wrestlers became bigger stars who work together.

Nash’s 6’10” height allowed him to become the perfect bodyguard figure for Michaels, introducing this new personality. WWE took over Nash as the athletic and intimidating big man character. WCW Signature Nash saw him have a huge vs. giant feud and further validate his legacy as a great big man.

The height of 6’10” proved that tall wrestlers can flop

Tyson Kidd has a big guy who introduces Jackson Andrews’ new bodyguard figure and backs up his heel character. WWE wanted Andrews to eventually become a bigger star and take advantage of his size to sell the monster heel charm.

Unfortunately, Andrews barely existed and did little to get over his work with Kid. WWE quickly gave up on the act and sent him back to development to continue his learning. Andrews was eventually released and was never seen again after losing his WWE job.

WWE hired Kurrgan to become the next huge heel in the promotion, but did not have the opportunity to push him into a major role. Kurrgan’s first push came as a top wrestler in the Truth Commission Faction. Unfortunately, the group flops and Don Charis was the most memorable member of the manager.

Kurrgan got a few more chances when the biggest came to another faction on the face. Oddly, it featured a ragtag group of Kurgan and a strange wrestler. Most notable from his previous push. Wrestling wasn’t going well with the 6’11” giant, so Kurrgan pivoted towards a successful acting career.

WWE mocked a new character from the Undertaker’s backstory when Paul Bearer dropped his brother Kane. After setting up a massive debut for Kane and a feud with the Undertaker months later, he achieved great success in becoming a key member of the show.

With a height of 7’0” and a perfect mask, Kane made him feel like a character from a horror movie. He became even more frightening as Kane’s segment burned others. Kane spent decades on the WWE roster without being fired.

Most wrestling fans don’t remember Eli Cottonwood, but he was one of the tallest wrestlers of all time when he did the NXT competition show. Cottonwood stood out in the 7-foot-high FCW development program to be called out for the second season of NXT.

However, the NXT show put the wrestlers in a strange competition that hurt some of the talents involved. Cottonwood became a joke with a comical segment that embarrassed him. WWE saw him being eliminated second in NXT and not on the main roster.

Former WWE talent Shanky hopes to find success after it’s released by WWE, but he remains one of the highest names in the company’s history. Shanky had the whimsical appearance of a thin wrestler with extreme heights and athletic backgrounds.

WWE combined Shanky, Jinder Mahal and Veer, but this act attracted little attention to its impact. Shanky is limited by lack of experience, and WWE fails to give him the ideal personality and angle that suits the landscape. 7’1” Tall Giant Shanky was released in 2023 without a title or notable achievement.

Big Show got his start at WCW as The Giant, but he made a big move for WWE to work with Vince McMahon. Tenure can be seen as both a great success and somehow manages to live up to his hype and reach the charm that reaches Andre.

WWE still used multiple main event runs and a big show strong enough to build a career spanning over 20 years. Big Show has become an important player to raise cards when needed. AEW currently employs a big show, but he is remembered as a tall WWE giant of 7’1”.

Hari won the World Championship and received multiple main event pushes, but he never endured the hype. Both the scary matches and the inconsistent promotion prevented Hari from getting over the level of other top stars. WWE eventually moved Hari to the central card below.

Giant Silva was a former basketball player who moved to wrestling when WWE signed him in the late 1990s. Silva’s first and only act was his time as a secondary member of the strange faction of the Attitude Era.

Other names like Kurrgan, Luna Vachon, earthquakes under Mask were more established runs before this faction. The giant Silva stood out as an unknown wrestler, at an impressive 7’2” height, but it never seemed strange enough to make Silva feel important or memorable before his release.

WWE has pushed OMO for quite some time, with MVP as manager, to play notable matches with top names such as Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins. OMOS wins Tag Team Gold with AJ Styles and hopes to win more championships before WWE’s tenure ends.

Andre the Giant was one of the most important wrestlers in WWE history. The Golden Era really took off to reach new heights with a lot of money-painted angles, Andre as a top heel against Hulk Hogan WrestleMania 3.

Vince McMahon coined the term “the eighth wonder of the world” and described how unique performer Andre is. Wrestling fans were used to seeing the tall giant at 7’4” and paid to witness Andre’s live performance. McMahon saw Andre as the second most important talent behind Hogan because of his attractive position.
