Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff are officially back. This time they are aiming for the world of amateur wrestling. Their latest venture, Real American Freestyle, combines the fierce competitiveness of professional wrestling and reality TV drama, storytelling, character-driven energy with the fierce competitiveness of freestyle wrestling.
It’s new Forbes Interviews with Alfred Konuwa, Hogan and Bischoff detailed his bold plan to revolutionize the sport. And he explained why he believes this new concept will change his mind into both amateur and professional wrestling worlds.
“First, thank you for checking out the video, Boss.” Hogan spoke about the Viral NWO style teaser that announced the new league. “Because we were just trying to wake up. It’s going to be an electric shock for everyone. So we’re already excited to have such a great response.”
Bischoff added that traditional energy is not an accident. “The video was really Hulk’s idea at first. I loved it.” He said. “We knew the Hulk and I were together, and that’s kind of cool news for those who are fans of Monday Night War and more.
Bischoff continued, “Looking back, one of the things that really changed professional wrestling…it all started with promotions for those black and white video montages. Given the goals here in real American freestyle, that’s exactly what we’re bringing. It’s another level of entertainment, while still maintaining the reliability of the product. The stories of these athletes are not told. Above.”
When asked if it would be a filming product with storytelling woven with authentic American freestyle, both Hogan and Bischoff confirmed. “that’s right,” Bischoff said Hogan echoing through. “yes.”
“World-class athletes, elite-level athletes, Olympic-level wrestlers, university champions — but in a professional environment where there is more entertainment.” Bischoff explained.
Hogan likened this format to something that mainstream reality TV fans would recognize. “Think about your voice.” Hogan said. “People care about athletes because they do the backstory first. You know where they started, injuries, family backgrounds and the people are caring for them with a history package.
The authentic American freestyle roster is expected to exceed 40 elite athletes, with early names announced including former UFC star Ben Askilen, Olympian Kennedy Blade and NCAA champion Zahid Valencia.
Hogan and Bischoff didn’t hesitate when asked what kind of athlete Konuwa is looking for (athletes with top-notch credentials, or those who naturally pop out of the screen).
“I want both.” Bischoff said. “All of these athletes are best in class. If someone incorporates charisma, it’s great. But I love helping people find their characters, sometimes crossing that barrier.
Hogan recalls his early matches with Brock Lesnar to make his point. “I got him first, and it wasn’t a picnic, trust me. I’ve wrestled him probably 10 or 12 times. Hogan laughed. “I said, ‘If you’re going to keep doing this crap, you’ll end up here yourself.’ But in the end, I saw him turn into that crazy, over the top entertainer. That’s what we’re trying to see here too. ”
“You’ll see purebreds transform into entertainers as they learn their skills. Hogan added.
Bischoff closed by reminding readers that the wrestler’s mental composition is best for this. “You have to be wired a little differently to reach the elite level, and it creates incredibly unique individuals. What we do is give them a stage.
