Dave Meltzer has a view on Bischoff & Hogan’s authentic American freestyle wrestling

2 Min Read

This Monday, in classic NWO style, Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan announced the launch of the Real American Freestyle Wrestling League. Initially, Bischoff and Hogan began to outline their vision for new promotions. That is to say, the third member of Mystery revealed that UFC talent is Izzy Martinez, the freestyle wrestling coach best known by names like Jon Jones and Holly Holm. Following the massive announcement, wrestling fans and the media have mixed feelings about the ideas of Bischoff and Hogan, including Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, who are rooting for WCW legends but not too optimistic about their vision being successful.

“If they can succeed and many amateur wrestlers can live a better life, I think it would be great,” Meltzer said. “Obviously, the chances are very big, but I hope they’re the best because the wrestlers want to hire the best ones, so I hope they’re the best… It’s very tough, it’s been tried many times and it didn’t work, it feels like someone was conned, but we’ll see.”

Meltzer also says that Hogan’s “real American beer” is behind the new company, despite WWE still owning the product, and continues to question who will fund the real American Freestyle Wrestling League on TV and streaming.

“It’s a good shot to get a TV or streaming, because there are sports channels that just pick up something.

Meltzer said Eric Bischoff realizes that it takes a while to get promotions off the ground, and that it can be a failure at first, especially when it comes to making money with TV rights, if it’s difficult to get without a proven track record.
