John Cena set the Smackdown look before backlash

The indisputable WWE champion John Cena will appear on Friday, May 9th at SmackDown. This will serve as the final show ahead of the upcoming Backlash Premium Live Event. In the backlash, Cena will face his championship against longtime rival Randy Orton in Orton’s hometown of St. Louis.

Next week’s SmackDown will also feature a match between Jade Cargill and Nia Jax, with the winners garnering future opportunities against Tiffany Stratton at the WWE Women’s Championship. This title match is not officially scheduled for a backlash yet, but it may be added to the card.

Additionally, the tag team match was announced next Friday, with bloodline’s Jacob Fatu and Solosikoa taking on the unlikely pairing of Damian’s priest and Lanite. The match will have links to another backlash match, where Priest, Knight and Drew McIntyre will challenge Fatu for the US Championship in a 4-way contest.

Official Smackdown lineup for Friday, May 9th:

  • An uncontroversial appearance by WWE champion John Cena
  • WWE Women’s Championship No. 1 Match: Jade Cargill vs. Niajax
  • Tag Team Match: Jacob Fatu and Solo Cicor vs La Knight and Damian Priest
