In “WWE Smackdown” after WrestleMania 41, Zelina Vega shockingly beat Chelsea Green to win the Women’s US Championship. Vega’s first single title victory ended as the first female champion in Green’s 132-day reign, but it’s clear why the company chose to drop the 34-year-old belt, according to former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. Speaking about “wrestling with Freddie,” Prinze Jr. claimed that Green was given little creative direction after winning the title first, and WWE wanted to focus on prioritizing the formation of a secret Hervice instead of reigning the championship.
“After she won, they didn’t feel like they had anything for her. I don’t know that she’s the heel champion and that it’s easy to tell the story with the target behind the babyface champion.
Prinze Jr. went on to try and compile Vega. He perfectly deserves the opportunity to win the American Championship for women, and claimed that her promotion was part of the best character work of her career before heading out to the ring on Friday.
“If you saw that promotion where she cut out behind the scenes just before she went out to the match, it was realistic that she’d come out so far in her entire career. It was the latest promotion. You knew, like I said, they really didn’t give Chelsea, so she would win.”
