Just a few weeks after WWE’s debut, El Grande Americano has proven he won’t be overlooked. This time, we won Championship Gold. During the May 7th edition WWE SpeedLucador won the WWE Speed Championship, finishing the reign of Dragon Lee in the process.
This victory made El Grande Americano follow in the footsteps of Ricochetto, Andredo and Lee, becoming the fourth superstar to hold the WWE Speed title. In X, El Grande shared a message with his supporters:
“I would like to publicly thank the WWE Universe for the support they gave me to win my first WWE Singles title! I’ve been doing this for over 40 years and it made me feel like this is new to me. Let’s celebrate!!!”
Americano’s victory marked another conquest over his fellow Lukador, not just a title victory. Since his “debut” earlier this year, El Grande Americano has fulfilled his mission to dismantle his masked rival in WWE. in WrestleMania 41he defeated Ray Phoenix, who intervened for the injured Rey Mysterio.
It remains to be seen how far El Grande Americano will be as WWE Speed Champion. But after decades blacklisted by Lucha’s community, after he claims, Americano planted his boots firmly in WWE – and he doesn’t go anywhere.
