CMLL has taken a solid stance after WWE acquired AAA. “The True Lucha Libre House” We will reaffirm our position as a 100% Mexican company.
According to Ernesto Ocampo of superluchas.com,This move will cause CMLL to double their roots, as long as Arena Mexico stands, “Lucia Libre will never die.”
WWE’s acquisition of AAA has shaken up the landscape, but CMLL’s response was to maintain the status quo. Ocampo noted that plans to modernize reservation styles and television production are within the CMLL. However, these initiatives were suddenly shelved following the announcement of WWE.
“They also told the wrestlers there were no changes to their booking approach or contracts.” Ocampo reported. The lack of action left vulnerable talent as WWE is in a position to sign talent that CMLL couldn’t secure.
“This announcement should spark immediate steps to draft a new deal. This means that it locked up talent with better wages and clearly outlined dates with new Japan, Revpro, and AEW. But that doesn’t happen. Incredibly, it won’t happen.” Ocampo has been added.
Now, while CMLL stands at a crossroads and finds itself and sticks to tradition, WWE continues to expand its reach in Mexico through the AAA. It is yet to be seen whether CMLL’s decision to hold the company will protect their roster or sacrifice them some of their top talent.
