WWE added more fuel to speculation surrounding the future of company Jeff Cob.
On May 10, 2025, WWE applied for a trademark “JC Mateo” Under entertainment services related to wrestling exhibitions, fan club services and sports entertainment information. The filing includes the languages covering wrestling performances, providing wrestling news, hosting events for members of the Wrestling Fan Club, and creating online content centered around sports entertainment.
The timing of the trademark filing is frowned upon, especially considering Cobb’s debut in WWE Backlash. Cobb made an impact when he jumped to the barricades in a four-way match for US titles that included Jacob Fatu, La Knight, Drew McIntyre and Damien Priest. Without warning, Cobb levelled Lanite at ringside, allowing Fatu to hit Moonzoo and secure a victory.
Despite referring to Cobb “The man once called Jeff Cobb.” The official summary and photo gallery on WWE.com still labeled the great powers “Jeff Cob.” The gallery title has been read, “Photo: Jeff Cobb attacks La Knight with his shocking debut.” It suggests that WWE has yet to solidify Cobb’s new identity.
However, “JC Mateo” filing could indicate a potential rebranding of Cobb. This is a general move in WWE when bringing in external talent. This is not the first time WWE has changed the name of a wrestler. This is because the company claims ownership and trademarks new names to control character branding.
In addition to the mystery, Cobb’s arrival was held firmly under the wrap. Backstage reports that Cobb is reportedly “It’s somewhere in the 4-5 flights that start in Japan on the last day and a half and end up in St. Louis.” WWE officials are taking extensive precautions to prevent leaks about his surprising appearance.
After the match, Jacob Fatu was visible at Cobb’s actions and walked alone along the ramp, passing between Cobb and Solo Sicoa without acknowledging either man. This made fans speculate about possible integrity of Cobb with Sicor and the newer faction.
For now, WWE has not officially confirmed Cobb’s new name, but “JC Mateo” The trademark filing certainly suggests that a rebranding could be imminent. His impressive presence and bond with Jacob Fatu and Solo Sicoa could make Cobb a horrifying force for WWE under his new identity.
