John Cena’s dream of ruining wrestling and leaving WWE as champion is upbeat and thriving after maintaining the indisputable WWE Championship in the backlash. In the main event of the show, Cena faced Randy Orton, updating one of WWE’s biggest rivalries.
Neither man took it back to Orton’s hometown of St. Louis, and multiple judges did not take action along the way. The finish involved R-Truth and prevented Orton from punting Cena. The 17th WWE World Champion was capitalized by hitting Orton with a low hit before winning.
Cena won the match, but he wasn’t finished yet. After the match, grabbed the microphone and declared that Cena didn’t need fans, but that they needed competition. Cena ended the show by again declaring he was the last champion WWE has ever seen.
WWE had promoted the match as “the last one,” but Michael Cole claimed during the event that the match could be “the last time these guys go one-on-one.” It remains to be seen whether Orton will win another shot in China, where he remains competitively hungered.
