The wrestling legend sub passed away earlier this week, and many wrestlers share his memories. Taz, an AEW commentator and former ECW wrestler, talks about “bust open radio” about important career times.
“He decided to go [to Japan] And yeah, it definitely chopped me down and produced some heat,” Taz said. He was getting a better push than me, he was making much more money than me. But I began to feel a little more envious of him. There were some debates everywhere, but there were no crazy or boxing. ”
When ECW boss Paul Heyman created a storyline about Sub’s departure, what began as a real job decision turned into an exciting wrestling story. Taz played the role of a loyal ECW wrestler who felt betrayed when Sabu left, setting up what would become a famous feud when Sabu finally returns.
That moment on the way home – still remembered by many wrestling fans today when Sabu emerged from the darkness to confront Taz at the ECW Arena.
“I think the first thing I thought when the lights were on and I’m grateful that Pop did well with this. You can write an angle. The workers can do that angle, not in the sense that the audience is taking an angle, especially in that building,” Taz said. “I told myself, oh my god, I think the building is shaking. And the third thing I thought was, I knew a homeboy. [Sabu] It’s over, but man, I’m done now more than ever. ”
Subsequent rivalry made ECW famous, making both men an important part of the history of wrestling.
