ECW Legend Sandman calls matches in the ring, contrasting with AEW Style and Sabu’s behavior

ECW Star and Pro Wrestling Innovator Sub passed away earlier this week at age 60, with tributes and memorial pours to performers who have been delayed by performers since then. Working closely with Sabu for years at ECW, he appeared in The Sandman (Busted Open Radio), James Fullington, and shared some of his memories of getting into the ring with the sub.

Flington felt that he and Sub always had particularly good in-ring chemistry, and the two had to barely talk before going out and playing more matches than they were satisfied. Sandman cited some sort of AEW match as a rebuttal of the style he shared with Sub.

“AEW match – What are the six of AEW players? [wrestler] Do you remember now? What about 150 in the ring in a 20-minute match? “Frington said. [or] Four ideas of what we wanted to do, do you know what I mean? It didn’t have to be “tackle, drop down, hip toss.” Do you know what I’m saying? You just go out there, you flow, you feel it. ”

Sandman pays homage to Sub

Sandman believes that Sabu taught me a lot about the industry and the form of art, and one of the most important things that Sabu taught him was that the match could be great and easy. He was extremely influential, but Sub’s career never reached the same height as many of his peers, including Mick Foley and Rob Van Damme. Flington believes there is a main reason why Sub never got the recognition he deserves.

“He didn’t cut the promotion,” continued Frington. “Sub, the guy knows who he is and who his character is, so he knows you’re not supposed to be out there and talk like his usual American self.”

Flington concluded his time on the show with a direct message to Sub, telling him that he loved him and appreciated their friendship and time together in their rings over the years.

Sub and Sandman often wrestled each other at least 70 times in the ECW. Both men later joined WWE and participated in an eight-man tag team match at WrestleMania 23 in 2007.
