Aew Star Will Ospreay teases a potential match against a veteran NJPW wrestler, suggesting that it could take place on a banned door pay-per-view.

Ospreay recently spoke to “Yojoshmartinez.” There he was asked about wrestlers from Japan as he was keen on wrestling that he had never faced before. Ospreay spoke about not having the opportunity to wrestletter with current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Hirooki Goto, saying that the Japanese star could be a great opponent for him.

“Oddly enough, the IWGP world heavyweight champion is now GOTO. We didn’t wrestletter each other.

OSPREAY and GOTO have never faced each other in singles matches despite being in NJPW at the same time, but have been involved in numerous tags and multiman matches during the Ospreay era in Japanese promotions. The two stars were last in the ring back in 2023 when Osprey, Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher made Gogo, Tomoaki Honma and Yoshi Hashi better.

Forbidden Door, a co-promoted pay-per-view between AEW and NJPW, is set to take place in Ospreay’s hometown of London in August, so it could be the perfect venue for Ospreay to face GoTo.

GoTo, the current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, is a title Ospreay held before and has yet to engage in singles matches at AEW. However, he was part of the 2022 Forbidden Door as part of his pre-show purchase. GoTo is currently taking his first reign as the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion after winning from Zack Saber Jr. in February.
