The Lexis King’s contract with AEW expired in 2023, and he wasted no time signing with WWE and becoming an NXT superstar. However, he appears to be calling AEW “developmental” promotion now.
Lexis King hyped the arrival of the main event on WWE Evolve on Twitter, calling it a big moment for the brand. He downplayed the level of competition he thought he would face, but made it clear that he didn’t think he was evolving. Instead, he called it a fresh opportunity for him to rule and make his mark.
“Tonight #Wweevolve has the glorious privilege of hosting the king in the main event! I don’t expect the competition to be steep, but this is… evolution is not a downgrade, it’s a fresh green land that will be conquered by someone other than me!!!”
In response, fans commented that they were looking at AEW instead, and said that they evolved as a developmental brand of WWE’s own developmental system, dismissing its importance, “I’ll look at @Aew instead of development for development. Sorry. I’m sorry.”
King turned the comment around and responded by pointing out that he saw the sarcasm of the fans. “So are you seeing development for development? No need to worry… I’m busy while you watch others develop!”
This led to fans who say that while Lexis King is one of his favorites, he didn’t like what the King called the developmental company. “Lexis is my boy, but I call you developmentally….No.” Lexis King defended his comments as he said he developed it while working at AEW. “I developed while I was there.”
This comes after Lexis King admitted he was caught off guard by his AEW departure. Anyway, King is pleased with his current role in WWE, but it’s certainly true that his comments about AEW rubbed many people the wrong way.
What do you think about Lexis King calling AEW “developmental”? Do you agree with his perspective, or do you think he underestimates the value of AEW in the wrestling world? Tell us what you think in the comments!
