Matt Cardona revealed he tried to book John Cena for the GCW show

Matt Cardona has done very well in the independent wrestling scene in recent years, but there are still some big names he wants to face. One of them is John Cena. In fact, he contacted Cena about holding a match at the GCW event, but the match never happened.

While talking to Chris Van Vriette, Matt Cardona was asked about the enemy he still wanted to wrestletter. Cardona revealed that he tried to wrest John Cena at Hammerstein Ballroom earlier this year for the GCW and GCW events.

Cardona had a mysterious opponent planned, so we decided to take a big chance by contacting Cena. Cena couldn’t make it happen, but Cardona gave it a shot and said there was some back and forth communication.

Cardona explains that the show needs a big opponent, and the idea that Cena will return in the Hammerstein Ballroom is “If China wins, we’ll start a riot.” The crowd would have been wild. Even though it didn’t work out in the end, Cardona still thinks it’s open to the future. Instead of Cena, the match was characterized by Tommy Invincible and Cardona doing an invincible, quick work.

“I heard, and pitched Cena to serve as me in GCW’s Hammerstein Ballroom this year. I had this mysterious opponent, so I reached out and I threw Hale Mary.

“Because we knew we needed an opponent for the Hammerstein Ballroom. Can you imagine he was back in the ballroom? That wasn’t intended, but hey, we spent some time away. He would have been Nuts to come, but instead we made Tommy invincible.”

The GCW Dream Match never happened, but Matt Cardona is still hopeful. The fact that he reached out to someone as big as John Cena shows how devoted he is to creating memorable moments, not just wrestling matches. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether Cardona will have each opportunity to face Cena again before Cena retires this year.
