National Survey asks if Americans buy allegations against WWE Vince McMahon and others

3 Min Read

Vince McMahon’s long-standing sexual misconduct, although recently reported, has created a deep, dark stain on the already controversial reputation of professional wrestling. Originally there was a secret that was kept on the other side of the guerrilla curtains. The entire word has been exposed to view, and social media polls show that 24% of Americans were influenced by wrestling, and McMahon believes he is guilty of his misdeeds.

Yougov America has posted the results of a comprehensive sexual abuse allegation study about X, previously known as Twitter. Results from a larger investigation into sexual assault prompted a sample of 1,135 American adult citizens to cite their beliefs about sexual abuse allegations against several notable individuals, including Sean “Diddy” Combs (known as “P. Diddy”), Jeffrey Epstein, and Bill Cosby. McMahon was listed towards the bottom, with 24% of respondents saying they believe McMahon’s allegations of sexual assault. 9% said they didn’t believe the allegations, and 68% of those surveyed said they “don’t know.”

According to a more detailed survey breakdown from YouGov, 26% of the 530 male respondents in the survey and 22% of the 602 female respondents in the survey responded in affirmative. 13% of male respondents in the survey and 4% of female respondents in the survey denied the allegations. 61% of male surveyors and 74% of female surveyors (the overwhelming majority) were not sure. Age (all respondents were over 18 years old), race, party identification, family income, local classification, and most survey respondents were unsure about whether they believed McMahon’s allegations.

Respondents were collected from YouGov’s voluntary opt-in panel and are claimed to be “representatives of adult US citizens.” This study was held via web-based interviews and when adjusted for weighting, the margin measurement for error measurements is ±3.9%.
