The best WWE match of the Triple H era

10 Min Read

SummerSlam 2022 marked the first PLE where 3 was responsible for creative control WWE -In particular, in terms of company sales, I felt that WWE had a very similarity to the “new era” and that has continued since that moment. Overall, we found quality within the ring to be improved and consistent. This new era features many great matches.

We look at the last three years and decide which matches are the best under the rules of Triple H. This also takes into account the quality within the ring, the value of sports entertainment, atmosphere and other factors. Both cagematch.net and Dave Meltzer ratings from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter are included for comparison.

WrestleMania 41 Saturday

WrestleMania 41 There was no interest in the main event on Saturday, but the storytelling told in the match itself was a must-see. Reign, Rollins and Punk have been through a real sense of hatred, with so much hostility woven into the match.

The work inside the ring was strong, and all movements were important and had an impact. Paul Heyman’s commercial punk and his betrayal of Rome’s reign were a great way to close the match, coach alongside Seth Rollins, and lead him to a memorable victory close to WrestleMania.

Street Profits defeated DIY & MCMG

SmackDown April 25, 2025

9.35

5 stars

The SmackDown Tag Team Division was snubled from the WrestleMania card, so the trio of the teams on Street proved the power that DIY and MCMG were wrong and tried to steal the show. This WWE Tag Team Championship match was one of the best and most enjoyable TLC matches ever.

There were so many great spots, unique moments, and an audience that ate every moment. The match couldn’t be given up on pace, but it managed to avoid feeling like a spotfest. Street profits came out as winners, but all teams were promoted after this match.

Bad Bunny defeated Damian Priest

Backlash 2023

8.54

4.5 stars

The Puerto Rico Backlash features a blockbuster matchup between Music Sensation Bad Bunny and Referee Day’s Priest Damien, making it one of the greatest celebrity matches of all time in WWE. Bad Bunny held himself, showing psychology and quality methods in the ring beyond what many expected, selling like a professional, putting him all in the performance.

There were plenty of fun places due to the rules of street fighting. This is a realistic way for priests to not control the whole thing, opening the doors of interference in the likes of LWO, Judgement Day, Savio Vega, Carlito and more.

Despite the weak build, Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley tore the house in 2023 in one of the best women’s matches in WrestleMania history. Flair & Ripley always had top class chemistry.

Ripley won a huge victory over Flair at a great moment for WWE’s career, setting up a year-long women’s world title reign.

Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens defeated USOS

WrestleMania Saturday 39

WrestleMania’s main event featured the tag team championship for the first time, prompting a very pleasant show closer as Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens overcome USOS in a great match.

The pace of this match was thrilling, with the two teams running it at 100 mph and not making mistakes throughout, but they could also sprinkle a storytelling beat celebrating one of the best storylines of the Triple H era.

Cody Rhodes defeated the reign of Rome

WrestleMania 40 Sunday

9.22

4.75 stars

Cody Rhodes finally “finished the story” when he defeated the reign of Rome and completed his record-breaking WWE Championship 1316 days later. The match happened to feature one of the most iconic match endings to date, as it was often featured, fluid and full of good action.

Interference from The Rock, The Undertaker, John Cena, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Seth Rollins, Solo Sikoa and others created it for the chaotic stretch, further elevating the match.

Gunther defeated Sheamus

Clash at the castle 2022

9.23

Gunther’s intercontinental championship reign was on good terms, but it became more important after this match. Gunther and Sheamus engaged in a very physical and brutal battle, with all the strikes carrying so much weight.

It felt like a very realistic battle with both men introducing fantastical psychology and selling them to show how harsh the conflict is. The audience stood up at the match. Gunther won the match, but Sheamus received a pleasant standing ovation in the aftermath.

WrestleMania’s second night opened with the best match of the night. IyoSky successfully defended the women’s world title against Biancavere and Rhea Ripley, giving it a pleasant victory.

The quality of the work in the ring made this one of the best women’s matches in WWE history, with fluid sequences, great counters and big moves. It was a very impressive match, and each woman could shine, and it started the show in the van.

CM Punk defeated Drew McIntyre

Bad Blood 2024

9.45

5 stars

CM Punk and Drew McIntyre engaged in a very personal feud in 2024. Not only is their feud incredible, but their match in hell in cell in Bad Blood 2024 was also one of the best matches of the Triple H era.

Punk and McIntyre regained a sense of closure to hell and an increase in violence in cellular structures in matches packed with blood, brutal use of weapons and storytelling. It felt like a real battle between two sworn rivals, bringing hell back to its original glory in Cell. CM Punk went outside as the winner, but when everything was said and done, it felt like both men had left something in the ring.

WrestleMania 39 Sunday

The InterContinental Championship appeared on the WrestleMania 39 line as three European powers went to fight at Gunther, Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. All three men took out chunks from each other and didn’t pull the punches in a hard hit match.

Despite their size, the match continued at a very fast pace, with no decreasing physicality levels at any point during the match. The audience was wild for the match, and the level of work in the ring went through the roof and felt like war. Gunther continued his record-breaking IC title reign, and yet another big victory.
