Triple H explains how Rock’s WWE finisher first started making a joke

WWE CCO Triple H explains the origins of the elbow movements of the people of the rock and how it was not intended to grow.

People’s elbows won huge pop from the audience, especially in the era of attitude when Rock used it, but Triple H revealed that it started out as a rib with his appearance on the “high performance” podcast.

“Does the rocks make his finishers, people’s elbows? That’s the stupidest move ever. He runs twice, hits the rope, and perhaps drops the worst elbow on you,” he began. “It’s not a knock… it started out as a joke. It started with a live event that wasn’t aired on TV, laughing at Undertaker and trying to break the character… and he did. It reacted even more.

The WWE Hall of Fame highlighted how the elbow setup for people throwing elbow pads and looking around the arena can help build expectations among the audience. Triple H added that the move was not intended to ultimately be iconic.

“It became a big thing, but it wasn’t designed that way. It was free. [The Rock thinking]”Okay, I did this and they responded, so I’m going to do more of it. I’m going to explore it.”

The move was just as exciting as the fans, but also helped sell the items as it revealed that WWE started selling elbow pads after WWE became popular a few years ago.
