“The Tribal Chief” Rule of Romewas an indisputable WWE Universal Champion for over 1,200 days. Early in Reign’s championship reign, he was a combat champion and defended the title with all premier and selective live events.
Since early 2022, Reigns has been working on the dates “Tribal Chief” was selected and has begun cutting back on its limited appearance schedule. This seemed to alienate wrestling fans and hurt the entire championship reign. However, there is a reason why Rome’s rule is working to cut schedules.

The battle with leukemia and covid-19 of the Roman ruler took a blow to his health

- Governance became a WWE superstar after being diagnosed with leukemia in 2007.
- The rulers had to vacate the WWE Universal Championship in 2018.
- Roman rulers took a break from WWE during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 due to their immunocompromised.
A few years ago, the Roman ruler had to take a vacation from WWE after announcing to the world that he had been diagnosed with his second match of leukemia. The governance at the time was WWE Universal Champion and was planning to defend the title against Brown Strowman and Brock Lesnar at WWE Crown Jewel 2018, but had to vacate the championship. Governance was originally diagnosed with leukemia in May 2007 during his NFL career as part of the Minnesota Vikings. He was able to recover and was in remission in 2009. The governance had not taken action from the WWE until February 2019.
A year later, the Covid-19 pandemic began to spread around the world. At the time, Reigns was WWE Universal Champion and originally planned to defend the title against Goldberg on the WrestleMania 36. Reigns decided to take a break from the event and be immune to dying from leukemia. The ruler returned to WWE in August 2020 and turned the heels by attacking Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman at Summer Slam. This bold move marked the beginning of his “tribal chief” gimmick.

The New Deal is cutting schedules for tribal chiefs

- The Roman rulers wanted more time with their families.
- WWE and Vince McMahon have addressed Roman needs.
When the Roman rule signed a new contract with the WWE from 2022 as part of the provisions, he chose to work on cutting the schedule. The reason behind this decision by governance is that he needs to have more time with his family and he needs to “control” his life more and more do things in and out of the ring.
Below is an excerpt taken from an interview with Sports Illustrated Media Podcast, who talks about the terms of the WWE agreement.
“The main thing is when you’ve been on the road for almost ten years in a row, and when you’re at the highest level of the main event level, I’ve run a full schedule for a long time. Even before I went to Fox, it turned into Friday’s Smackdown, two live events on Saturday and Sunday, and sometimes Monday night’s live. Tuesday, we’re half Wednesday, and you’re half Wednesday. I know who their dad is to me. I prioritize my dad and wear the number one hat I wear.
The Roman ruler took even fewer matches in 2024
Roman Reigns wrestled twice with the Wrestlemania 40
- The Roman rulers wrestled six times in 2024.
- The tribe’s chief was an indisputable WWE Universal Champion for over 1,000 days.
- He lost the Cody Rhodes title at WrestleMania 40.
At the WrestleMania 40, Reigns wrestled two matches. In the evening, he and Locke faced Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in a tag team match. The two succeeded, and Locke won a Pinfall victory over Rhodes. However, on the second day he lost the uncontroversial WWE Universal Championship to Rhodes in one of the most anticipated main events of all time in WWE.
After a few months away, Reigns returned to WWE at Summerslam 2024, sacrificing the Solo Sikoa The WWE Championship. In late 2024 he focused on his feud with Sicor and regained his status as the chief of the tribe. Of the six matches he wrestled in 2024, three of them were involved in Sicor with some level of ability.
