The former AEW star has revealed that in his proposed idea, he pitched the idea that Tony Karn is not masked.
Former Fuego Del Sol, who is currently wrestling as KJ Orso, was reborn without a signature mask in the independent wrestling scene that broke up with AEW in June 2023.
According to comments made by Starr himself, masking was one of the ideas that pitched Tony Kahn.
Speaking about busted open radio, Orso reveals that he is “throwing things at the wall.”
“Like I said, I tweeted it a few days ago. I was troubled by the idea of becoming KJ Orso for years. I pitched it to Tony Khan at one point, taking off my mask with AEW, threw things on the wall.
“When it comes to versatility, I had to introduce and show off another side of myself, and get text messages from every big name you could imagine. I slap my phone. “Thank you for everything you did.” “We miss you, man.” “I hope this is all about work.” “I hope this isn’t the real thing.” Many of the colleagues I’ve made over the years knew what we were saying, but I’m really grateful for it.
“It’s like seeing your funeral and being at your funeral at once. But we live in a crazy world of wrestling where everyone thinks it’s all about work, and some people may have guessed that the next step is coming.”
As for why Karn did not pursue the idea that Fuego del Sol lost his mask, Orso talks about his lack of vision as Aew Star, saying:
“I’ve said this in the past. I don’t think Tony Kahn has a real plan for me. I think the fanfare and respect I got from the locker room almost forced me to sign. But there was no real plan for me.
“That’s why I’m throwing a thousand pitches at the wall. Last year I put out a video of me pitching to join Lance Archer and the tag team. Let him and him do this fun, a little dynamic.
“I feel like I’ve become an adorable loser in a way. There’s a foul smell I’ve wanted to get rid of since leaving AEW. I feel like I’m doing the best job of my career at GCW.
“For a while, when I give storytellers and wrestlers how good they are, I have a fiery desire to introduce it to the world. I know that. It feels like Tony didn’t see it, and I’ve been picking up steam for the past few years, but casual wrestling fans haven’t seen it.
“There’s a lot of TV on TV right now. Every week, only between AEW and WWE. So, the number of casual fans watching TNA, New Japan, MLW, NWAS is game-changer wrestling. And the world hadn’t seen it yet, that was my time now.
“After spending 11 years as Fuego del Sol and really switching things around, turning my head over and flipping the script, and getting this fresh paint I was desperately hoping for, it wasn’t a better time.”
Orso will also say he feels he has held him down, but he said he is “really underrated” when it comes to his promotional work.
Previously, Orso defended Jey Uso from criticism following numerous shared clips of WWE stars delivering spears.
