Hulk Hogan became WWE’s biggest star in the industry when his face ran. The Hulkamania era featured many interesting stories that Hogan was involved as the most important player until his relationship with Vince McMahon began to become flounder.

Eric Bischoff convinced Ted Turner to pay Hogan a massive deal with many perks to move to WCW in 1994. WCW didn’t take off initially, but Hogan eventually turned the heels to lead the new world order, making the promotion even more heated than ever.

Brian Clark had the opportunity to find success in WWE under the stupid name and gimmick of the Adam Bomb. Fans struggled to connect with such a pretentious character and saw him lose TV time and be released. WCW signed Clark to play an angry character inspired by mortar combat in the late 1990s.

The characters had early momentum, but never reached high enough stats to get through. WCW, who quit Mortal Kombat Gimmicks, failed in his rage before Clark achieved more success as part of the Chronic Tag Team alongside Brian Adams, previously known as Clash in WWE.

Rey Mysterio did a tough job entering WCW as the shortest talent to get opportunities in a mainstream company outside of the small-person division. Fans quickly connected with Ray due to his colorful masks and the incredible style of the square circle.

Mysterio became the top cruiserweight and succeeded in WCW with the “giant killer” gimmick. WWE signed Ray over a year after WCW went out of business, making him an even bigger star and featured him as the greatest underdog of all time in many main event storylines.

WWE added Kamala to the roster several times after becoming a notable character in the industry. Vince McMahon’s love for the monster heels led to Kamala having some major angles against names like Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan and Undertaker.

Unfortunately, none of the programs made Kamala a breakout star. Kamala had a short term in WCW, so he joined the Dungeon of Doom Faction. WCW did little to get over Kamala, but he only lasted a few months.

Kevin Nash’s early WCW tenure flops because Gimmicks is bad, but he got on Shawn Michaels’ radar to receive the WWE offer. Michaels helped Nash play his bodyguard as Diesel, reaching the point where Diesel won the WWE Championship before HBK himself!

Vince McMahon blindly felt that Nash had decided to leave after a big push to make a massive offer for the WCW return. However, Nash’s second WCW run was a great success in the New World Order and was a successful fixture in the main event scene in the final year of the promotion.

London and Don Harris are proof that promoters and Booker may prefer talent. Vince Russo became a massive supporter of the Harris twins during his stint in both WWE and WCW, and was able to receive some pushes.

WWE used them as Blu Brothers and as part of their apocalyptic disciples, both flops badly. Russo got even bigger pushes at WCW, as his henchmen were called Creative Control, but fans never minded it in the days of being forced into the spotlight.

Randy Savage is considered the second most important WWE star of the Golden era, after Hulk Hogan. Macho Man’s beloved character and performances in the ring helped the company reach new heights, but Vince McMahon wanted to abolish him in the early 1990s.

WCW offered to sign Savage to expand his career after WWE basically wrote him. Savage has another two or three world title reigns, contributing to multiple high-end storylines as the best free agent signature of all time.

Shane Douglas had plenty of chances to join WCW, but he accused Rick Flair of never taking off his career of leaving there. WWE tried to make Shane a reliable heel under Vince McMahon’s Dean Douglas’ bad gimmick. More behind the scenes drama saw Douglas hold him down and blow up Shawn Michaels.

ECW infuriated Douglas about both promotions with a promotion for filming. But I went back to WCW and took part in a workshot feud against Flair who backfired for another failed run.

The end of WCW was characterized by the growth of the narrative, where previous WCW talents were unable to succeed in WWE due to a lack of creative booking. Names like Diamond Dallas Page, Goldberg, and Scott Steiner were tough, but Booker T was the exception.

After pushing Booker T as the dominant tag team wrestler, WCW moved him into a singles role, where he became the ultimate top babyface in the company’s history. Booker wasted time joining WWE shortly after purchasing WCW and became a major player for many years.

Both WWE and WCW have always tried to find the next Big Man attraction after names like Andre Major. Giant Gonzalez had a lot of hype as a former basketball player, so at that point he moved into a square circle as the tallest wrestler of all time.

El Gigante is the name used in WCW and felt more natural than WWE, but he still did nothing before he left. Vince McMahon’s achievements pushed the monster’s heels and encouraged him to join WWE. Unfortunately, the giant Gonzalez Gimmick has failed him badly to ruin the rest of his career.
