Aew Star Will Ospreay shed some light on not signing Evolve in 2016 when WWE’s Paul Heyman offered him a deal.
In a recent conversation with “Yojoshmartinez,” fans were asked about Ospreay being “Paul Heyman Guy.” The AEW star was free about the veteran wrestling manager, but revealed that he had declined an offer that Heyman had made to him nearly a decade ago.
“Listen, yeah, sure [I’d love to be a ‘Paul Heyman Guy.’] Paul gave me that incredible moment at a time when he offered me an evolved deal years ago. To be honest with you, I didn’t take it [laughs]. “I grew up watching him, I’ve always admired his ability to evolve his personality and get into a particular role. He’s a guy.”
When Ospreay offered the contract from Heyman in 2016, he had said he had a contract with NJPW and that if he decides to sign with WWE, he must look into it. He also said that if he participated in the promotion of the US, it would have been ROH due to a good relationship with the promotion of Japan.
The English star ultimately continued NJPW and was part of the promotion until last year. WWE was once again interested in signing OSPREAY when his NJPW contract ended last year, but he made it clear that negotiations between WWE and AEW will be by day and day. Ospreay said that the transactions offered by AEW were far better than WWE, but AEW also had a difficult schedule.
