The May 20, 2025 episode of WWE NXT provided a final accumulation for the NXT Battleground, scheduled for this Sunday in Tampa, Florida. The show featured a special musical segment with Joe Hendry and Trick Williams, which was a fierce face-to-face conflict between NXT champion Oba Femi and his challenger Miles Bourne, thanks to his shocking debut.
Milesborn, who won the championship opportunity by winning 25 battle royals on the NXT episode on May 6th, faced off against dominant champion Obafemi in the ring. The two exchanged words in what was billed as a true “David vs Goliath” matchup heading into the Battlegrounds. Borne, a partially deaf and using hearing aids, accepts his underdog status, but Femi denies his chances of being a challenger.
As their fierce verbal conflict approached the end, the arena was suddenly shaken by the arrival of Jasper Troy, the recent winner of WWE’s “Legends and Future Greats” (LFG) competition. Alongside Tyra Mae Steele, Troy, who won the NXT contract with the WWE LFG season finale on May 18th, ran through the ring and quickly attacked the impressive NXT champion.
The 340-pound former college footballer (real name Antoine Frazier) laid out Oba Femi in several powerful moves, sending a clear message across the NXT roster.
This moment was foreseen several weeks ago on the NXT episode on April 29th. At that time, Undertaker appeared behind the scenes, warning Femi about future challenges from LFG talent, and mentioned Troy in particular.
Early in the evening, NXT general manager Ava was blessing both Troy and Steele in the behind-the-scenes segments Troy boldly stated. The great power certainly fulfilled its promise and created a memorable moment for fans to burst into excitement about his future at NXT.
In this episode, Je’von Evans vs. Sean Legacy vs. Ashante The You Adonis, Kelani Jordan vs. Zaria, Chase University (Uriah Connors & Kale Dixon) vs. They also featured matches such as OTM (Bronco Nima & Lucien Price) and Shawn Spears vs. Josh Briggs. The music segment between TNA World Champions Joe Hendry and Trick Williams added entertainment value ahead of the championship match at the Battlegrounds.
The NXT Battleground will take place on Sunday, May 25th at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. The event features several other well-known matches, including Obafemmi defending the NXT Championship with Miles Borne, Joe Hendry defending the TNA World Championship with Trick Williams, NXT Women’s Championship with Jordinne Grace, and defending Stephanie Verker.
