Every wrestling gimmick is to elicit a response from the fans. It could be either or a variety of different things at the same time. Fans can feel sympathy for the wrestlers, they feel very underrated and lacking a great opportunity, which can make them take root. Another character can feel disgusting towards them, but it’s become more common these days, giving them a love-hate reaction.
Then there are a few characters that will anger fans. It’s not a bad thing in general, but this should be considered. Even when wrestlers are playing on TV, their main goal is to get fans interested. If their presence turns off the audience every time they make a TV appearance, then no one would want to see them. These are characters that should probably not be portrayed on television.
Carwin White
White racist character
Real name | Salvador Guerrero IV |
---|---|
Wrestling name | Chaboguerrero |
WWE tenure | 2001-2011 |
Carwin White’s debut was when Chabo Guerrero changed his name, dyed his hair, and changed the racist. He was not white, but he was supposed to be racist for all non-white people, if not white. But the problem was that he was hated by all kinds of people.
Chabo gave him everything to the gimmick to become the heels of the top, but his ideas could be too much for WWE too.
Muhammad Hassan
Depicting stereotypes of Arabs
Real name | Mark Julian Copani |
---|---|
Wrestling name | Muhammad Hassan |
WWE tenure | 2004-2005 |
WWE has never properly done stereotyped characters. Many fans will even argue why they do it in the first place. The character was supposed to attract sympathy from fans due to unfair discrimination against Arab Americans. Muhammad Hassan was trying to convince his fans that he was not a terrorist, but WWE had him scream for the Undertaker and its infamous segment.
Eugene
Intellectual challenges
Real name | Nicholas David Dinsmore |
---|---|
Wrestling name | Eugene |
WWE tenure | 2004-2007 |
WWE’s intentions were correct for Eugene’s character. He had autism and wanted to live a normal professional wrestler life. Luckily for him, he had this Savant-like quirk, so he was able to do all sorts of wrestling moves.
Many fans enjoyed watching Eugene. He was overly excited about a lot of things and seemed to be really passionate about the sport. WWE tried to gain sympathy from the fans by placing him against a wrestler who would tease him and become a bully. It worked to some extent, but fans still believe that such characters should not be on television.
Tim White
A very depressed judge
Real name | Timothy Squirrel White |
---|---|
Wrestling name | Tim White |
WWE tenure | 1980-2009 |
A comedy skit should be fun at least. But when you joke about someone’s mental illness and lead to a tasteless angle just to get a laugh from someone, it’s no longer interesting. It’s very uncomfortable.
WWE did it with former referee Tim White, who had to retire after an injury in the ring in the 2000s. According to WWE Canon, this leads him down the path of depression, and he always tries to finish it all, but continues to fail.
Paul and Katie Burchill
The meaning of incest
Real name | Paul Burcharle | Katarina Lee Waters |
---|---|---|
Wrestling name | Paul Burchill | Katie Lee Burchill |
WWE tenure | 2005-2010 | 2006-2010 |
Paul Burchill’s running as a pirate was extremely underrated. He ended with the fans, and the gimmick was actually something refreshing during the ruthless offensive era. Burchill already had a follower before joining WWE. At the time, he flew a Jump Spain as a finisher, which went viral.
WWE may have been able to capitalize on his popularity, but they shook the ball. His pirate tactics were closed due to copyright horrors, and WWE paired him with Katie Lee. This gimmick probably wasn’t as good as his last gimmick, but it still did work. In the typical WWE way, they were ruined by an implicit incest relationship between the two.
“Silverback” Mark Henry
Racial Elements of Nicknames
Real name | Mark Gerold Henry |
---|---|
Wrestling name | Mark Henry |
WWE tenure | 1996-2021 |
Mark Henry was one of the strongest men to step into a wrestling ring. When everyone called WWE the strongest man in the world, his real-life weightlifting and powerlifting achievements supported this claim. Henry went through some bad gimmicks before stepping into the roster. His Hall of Pain Run was great, but WWE wanted to do something more, so they gave him the title of Silverback. WWE probably didn’t realize why calling someone a gorilla is considered very aggressive, especially a black wrestler. Thankfully, Henry asked them to drop this angle and they listened.
Colonel Devia
Another white racist character
Real name | Edward Wyskoski |
---|---|
Wrestling name | Colonel Devia |
AWA tenure | 1985-1991 |
Colonel Debeers’ wrestling gimmick was that he was a white supremacist based on South Africa’s apartheid policy. He believes his race is above others and can be said to have managed to generate heat with this stye. He often refuses to fight black wrestlers, or even lets black referees host his matches.
The storyline suggested that he was insanely rich and that his wealth was tied up by De Beers’ diamond mine group.
Drunk Hawk
Hawk dealt with alcohol issues in real life
Real name | Michael James Hegstrand |
---|---|
Wrestling name | Road Warrior Hawk |
WWE tenure | 1990-1992 1997-1999 |
Too many wrestlers lose their lives due to alcohol and substance problems, and it feels very uncomfortable to use these elements as storyline plots. Hawk struggled with alcohol problems in real life. Even on WWE TV, WWE showed him under influence and suicide.
Chaz
It was revealed that the allegations were later constituted
Real name | Chaz Warrington |
---|---|
Wrestling name | Chaz |
WWE tenure | 1996-2001 |
If the beaver rift is not yet a bad enough gimmick, the repackage saw Mosh adopt the name Chaz. His ex-mother was now his girlfriend, and they were toxic.
Chaz decides to break up with Mariana and is accused of domestic violence by his black-eyed ex-girlfriend. It was then revealed that this was a fake, and Mariana was angry at the breakup.
Kamala
Stereotypes of African wild av gimmicks
Real name | James Arthur Harris |
---|---|
Wrestling name | Kamala |
WWE tenure | 1986-1987 1992-1993 |
At first, Kamala may not look like a controversial character, but fans need to remember that he is a Ugandan giant of a dark past. Many wrestlers take part in wrestling in a variety of backgrounds. Some were police officers, others were NFL players, others worked regularly until one day they decided to try wrestling. Kamala also had a past, but she was different from the others. He was portrayed as a cannibal with a highly racist and stereotypical gimmick.
