Shawn Michaels claims that modern WWE tag teams won’t hit the way they used to

Shawn Michaels knows one or two things about tag team wrestling. As half the locker with Marty Jannetty, HBK had flipped and flew long before WWE became a global empire. However, in a new interview with Scott Smith There are no holidaysMichaels shared cruelly honest thoughts on how the tag team landscape has changed and why it wasn’t hit like it used to be.

When asked if the tag team was more common then Michaels didn’t sugarcoat it. “Look, I don’t know if they were more common then.” He said. “I think it was when WWE first made a big splash, and then we paid attention to almost everything.”

He gave props to the old-fashioned era that produced outstanding duos like Powers of Pain, Hart Foundation and The Rockers, pointing out how diverse the team is in style and presentation. “You had the power of pain, then you had the locker, you had the Luge, you had the Heart Foundation.”

But when it comes to WWE today, Michaels said the atmosphere is different. Especially the way tag teams are formed. “I don’t know how many 100% tag teams there are, in contrast to the two guys who look like single wrestlers, but they form a tag team.”

Why the shift? According to HBK, it all depends on how WWE and its fans value the current star. “People understand that individual superstars are what makes them check everything out in WWE here.”

Still, he insisted that the tag team hadn’t disappeared. “Tag teams are still the general part. I know they’re here at NXT.” He said. But in the end, nostalgia is undefeated. “We all have our favorite time in wrestling, so we all have time for bias. I have mine too.”

Shawn Michaels is watching the game about what it is. And while the tag scene may not look like the 80s, there is still a place. If two single stars are just pretending to be a team, don’t expect the same magic.
