Mickey James was a pioneer in WWE’s women’s division and piloted down roads that have never been driven before. Between 2006 and 2010, she held five WWE Women’s Championships and one Diva Championship. At some point during that period, she was a young gun in the women’s division, to the extent she began pairing up with John Cena, the top male star of WWE. Unfortunately, even the most promising drives can hit obstacles, and in 2010 James was released after a rapid career slump.
Two years after she was fired, rumors began to swirl around the real reason James was let go. Their source was former WWE star Ken Doan, aka Kenny Dykstra. Doane claimed that in 2007 he was moved away from the “WWE RAW” roster where James and Cena were located and moved to “WWE Smackdown.”
With her high school girlfriend, Cena became her future first wife, Elizabeth Hooverdor, but she received many pullbacks at the time, especially as she was known as a franchise player for the company. Doane said she enjoyed “hook-ups” with Cena while James enjoyed her hottest success in WWE, but said the worsening relationship was her end.
James’s relationship with Cena may have led to her release
After a notable run on “Smackdown”, Doane was released in November 2008. A year later, according to Doane, James’s own career is in a hurry after Cena decided to officially make it with James by ending his relationship with Huberdeau. In Doane’s words, the former women’s champion was moved by “Smackdown” in the second half of 2009. She was then the subject of humiliation like the infamous “Piggy James” storyline before its release in 2010.
According to an interview with The Whunct Power Slam Magazine, James was told that her release was due to her desire to “move in a new direction in the women’s department,” but there has been no confirmation of the majority of Doane’s reports so far. However, James confirmed that he had a relationship with Cena in an interview with Lillian Garcia on Afterbuzz TV in 2017 after James returned to the company. Doan also returned to WWE, primarily in the producer role, despite his stated belief that his account of the incident with James and Cena would make him blackball. James ultimately helped WWE’s latest signatories go on a new path at WWE before performing as a coach in the first season of A&E’s reality series “WWE Legends & Future Greats” and before performing as a coach in the first season of WWE’s. She was replaced by Michelle McCool from WWE Hall of Famer in the second season of the show.
