Some believe Osprey can abdicate AEW world champion John Moxley, while others believe it is an imminent Derby Allyn. In any case, those who do so will have the additional responsibility to lead all elite wrestling. In a recent edition of “Busted Open Radio,” WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray told me whether he prefers Allin or Ospreay as the face of AEW.
“It’s an Osprey,” Ray said. “Will has height, that’s first of all. Derby doesn’t have the same height. Derby draws, so he almost looks like a comic book. [character] Or cosplayer. He talks about how he dresses, and friendly dresses. The most important thing is Will’s voice passion, the tone of his voice.
“You want to hear the deepest thing I can say about Osprey Eye? Osprey would have survived in ECW. That’s why he should have flew the flag for AEW. There were many people who thought he could survive in ECW. ecw.”
Ray was a longtime fan of Osprey’s high-flying, fast-paced in-ring style, but “Air Assassin” also solidified Ray as a fan of Microphone Ability, until Osprey Eye cut a passionate promotion ahead of NJPW Wrestling Kingdom 17. Since then, Ray has claimed that Ospreay has grown his relationship with fans exponentially, and that Ospreay himself has stated that AEW producer Jerry Lynn helped him in that respect. If Ospreay defeats “Hangman” Adam Page in the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Finals, he will challenge the AEW World Championship at AEW All.
