Trick Williams defeated Joe Hendry in the main event of last night’s WWE NXT Battleground. That is, the WWE wrestler won the TNA World Championship in the main event of the WWE PLE. Following the historic victory, Williams posted a photo of himself on X, recreating the iconic image of Michael Jordan, celebrating his third consecutive NBA Championship in 1993.

Williams hosted three different single championships in his younger career, including the WWE NXT Championship and the WWE NXT North American Championship. His victory over Hendry was not easy. Williams had to resort to cheap tactics to pin the previous champion, gush the opponent’s eyes, and use the title belt to his advantage before pinning Hendry. So, it seems likely that Hendry will seek a rematch, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Before the match, WWE star and former TNA world champion AJ Styles narrated videos on the title history, including Hendry’s reign and the pursuit of Williams. After spending much of his career at TNA, Styles joined the new Japanese professional wrestling in 2016, eventually signing with WWE.
The title change is the latest development of the WWE-TNA partnership, and will span the next few years as TNA and NXT talents put together the ring quite regularly. WWE’s upcoming Worlds Collide event, which will take place on June 7th, could potentially clash again in the same near future as the newly purchased AAA.
