Trick Williams defeated Joe Hendry and became the TNA World Champion in the “WWE NXT” Battlegrounds.

History was made when the TNA World Championships were defended at the WWE Premium Live event for the first time. Hendry was featured in a pre-match vignette narrated by former TNA and WWE champion AJ Styles.

Williams tried to annoy the champion in the early stages, avoiding the three-collar and elbow alliance after Hendry chopped him up and sent him outside in a clothesline. Hendry followed Williams in the plancher, regaining the action inside the ring, decking him with a shoulder tackle and a delayed suppression. The Challenger fought back into the match before hitting Hendry’s spinning pose, then delivered the end of the book for almost falls.

Williams continued his Groat while in his advantage, hitting Booker T’s spin Arony before getting caught up at the end of Hendry’s book. The champions continued with a gorilla press slam and near fall jump neck breaker before Williams was trapped in the guillotine and Hendry deadlifted him into a vertical suppression. Hendry hit the standing ovation finisher. Williams stepped into the ropes and took the action out just to break the fall. Williams dropped Hendry on the steel stairs and followed up to the end of another book to place him on the announcer’s desk, and hit the trick in the ring.

However, Hendry kicked out of the two, causing Williams to go outside and grab the TNA title belt. He sets up to hit Hendry with the title belt, but only for the referee to grab it from him. Hendry went on to get Williams closer and then went on to try a standing ovation. Williams gouges his eyes, hit a flapjack into the title belt and hit a winning pinfall trick shot.
