Could WWE Royal Rumble Transform Into an Entirely New Sport?

2 Min Read

Two top-ranked darts players, Luke Humphries and Luke Littler, have discussed the potential of the WWE Royal Rumble format being adapted by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Both players, ranked first and second in the PDC world rankings, revealed they were former WWE fans. Littler even uses Pitbull’s “Greenlight,” the theme song from WrestleMania 33, as his walk-on music and previously entered competitions to the theme of Cody Rhodes.

The idea of a “Royal Rumble”-style darts tournament, where players are eliminated after losing and new challengers continuously enter, has been proposed by several, including 2010 champion Paul Nicholson. When asked if the PDC should consider this format, Littler strongly agreed, while Humphries was supportive, noting it would add fun and entertainment without compromising the sport’s seriousness.

They joked about the possibility of legendary 16-time world champion Phil Taylor making a surprise return as a participant. Additionally, there was a humorous suggestion about replacing traditional darts trophies with wrestling-style championship belts. Littler and Humphries will also team up to represent England in the upcoming PDC World Cup of Darts, a tournament featuring top players from 40 countries.

Fan Take: This crossover highlights WWE’s broad cultural influence and shows how its entertainment style could innovate traditional sports like darts. For WWE fans, it’s exciting to see their favorite sporting entertainment inspiring fresh concepts that blend competition with spectacle.
