AEW commentator Jim Ross has given an update regarding his upcoming surgery following his colon cancer diagnosis. Ross first announced his diagnosis on social media on May 15, mentioning that surgery would take place within one to two weeks.

In the latest episode of his podcast “Grilling JR,” Ross shared that his surgery is set for 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, and that cancer has been found in two locations. He stated, “I’m preparing for surgery, and it’s always stressful, but I’m preparing myself mentally and physically to endure the situation.” Ross noted that doctors expect him to stay in the hospital for six days afterwards, and he plans to slow down during his recovery.

Despite these challenges, Ross is eager to continue his role in AEW and believes he can maintain his previous work schedule. He expressed uncertainty about others’ views but remains hopeful, saying, “I still want to do a pay-per-view with AEW, but I don’t know if Tony wants me.” He also revealed receiving supportive calls from Stone Cold Steve Austin and AEW president Tony Khan, highlighting the strong care and concern he’s received.

Regarding retirement, Ross has no current plans to step away from broadcasting and hopes to be part of AEW’s ALL IN event in Texas on July 12. He concluded, “I’m not going to retire. I’m healthy, I’m hoping to get better and do something for someone else. I’ll see how it works.”

The wrestling community continues to wish Jim Ross a successful surgery and full recovery, with updates to follow as more information becomes available.
