WWE is reportedly planning to schedule more direct competition with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) later this year, following multiple instances where both promotions held major events on the same day or weekend.
During a recent Wrestling Observer Live episode, Brian Alvarez revealed that sources indicated this scheduling was intentional, though he didn’t provide specific details.
One example of this clash was on Sunday, May 25th, when WWE’s NXT Battleground event overlapped with AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view. Looking ahead, another significant overlap is set for Saturday, July 12th, 2025, when AEW will host the Texas Stadium Show in Arlington during the afternoon, followed by WWE’s Saturday Night Main Event Special airing that evening.
WWE’s all-women’s premium live event, Evolution 2, is scheduled for the next day, July 13th. AEW President Tony Khan recently compared the current scheduling battles to the competition challenges the Jim Crockett promotion faced against WWE in the 1980s.
Fan Take: This strategic head-to-head scheduling highlights the growing rivalry between WWE and AEW, offering fans exciting weekends filled with back-to-back premium events. It underscores how competitive booking could lead to more innovative storytelling and elevated performances, ultimately benefiting the wrestling industry as a whole.
