We Regret Taking That Away

Former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander expressed that WWE made a wrong decision by discontinuing the Cruiserweight Championship and ending the 205 Live brand. Speaking about the importance of knockouts and three counts, Alexander, who was released by WWE in February 2025, emphasized why having a dedicated division for smaller wrestlers is crucial.

“Absolutely, 100%—WWE should bring back the cruiserweight title. They shouldn’t have removed it in the first place,” Alexander stated. He admitted that because of this, he lost interest in the 205 Live show.

He explained that such a division offers wrestlers opportunities they might not get otherwise. “The cruiserweight and light heavyweight divisions would never have disappeared because no matter who runs WWE, they provide more chances for people to shine. Not everyone can be Rey Mysterio, so it’s important that smaller wrestlers receive equal respect and have a space dedicated to that unique cruiserweight and junior heavyweight style,” he said.

Alexander also likened it to weight classes in combat sports, saying it brings authenticity to matches and allows exciting pairings like “Phoenix versus Penta,” which he described as thrilling and unpredictable.

Fan Take: Cedric Alexander’s viewpoint highlights a significant gap left by WWE’s removal of the cruiserweight division, which many fans feel diminished opportunities for dynamic, high-flying talent. Reviving this division could reinvigorate the roster with diverse wrestling styles and fresh matchups, benefiting both the performers and the fans who crave variety and exciting competition.
