WWE SmackDown 5/30/2025: Top 3 Highlights We Loved and 3 Flops We Couldn’t Ignore

Some fans reject the idea that wrestling revolves around storytelling, preferring instead to focus on technical wrestling matches. While there’s nothing wrong with appreciating the skill involved in the ring, wrestling truly shines when paired with a compelling story. Take, for example, the well-received feud between Toni Storm and Mariah May, or similarly the feuds promoted by WWE, such as those involving Naomi and Bella, which may not have legendary status yet but thrive on strong promotional work.

I predict that the Naomi vs. Bella rivalry will become a defining feud in 2025, especially if they keep delivering promotional segments like the recent ones.

Belair excels as a babyface character. Although some might want her to turn heel, her charisma perfectly fits her role as the fan favorite. Her promo work, especially opening “SmackDown” and her introduction in Tennessee, demonstrated clearly why she’s the face of WWE’s women’s division.

Naomi’s “careful progress” character is outstanding—arguably the best in WWE’s women’s “SmackDown.” Her ability to act out complex emotions, from eerie laughter to expressing deep personal pain and vengeful rage, stands out spectacularly. Naomi has shown great range beyond her previous simpler “glow” gimmicks, making her one of the most creative and theatrical performers in the division. She’s on the verge of becoming a compelling heel that fans will trust and find intriguing, unlike typical over-the-top villains.

Cargill may not have the strong character presence like Belair or Naomi, but she more than makes up for it with her pure presence and aura. You can’t teach the kind of calm and confident energy she brings to the ring. Her understated style balances out the more emotionally intense characters, like Naomi’s volatile nature, and her interactions with Bella add depth to their storyline.

I’m glad this feud didn’t conclude at WrestleMania because it promises to evolve further. Fans can expect exciting developments wherever Bella, Naomi, and Cargill head next.

Fan Take: This ongoing feud is crucial for WWE fans as it showcases the perfect blend of storytelling and in-ring talent, elevating women’s wrestling to new heights. Its evolution could redefine character work and rivalry intensity, bringing fresh excitement to WWE programming and inspiring future storylines.
