CM Punk has finally clarified the meaning and origin of his famous Pepsi logo tattoo. During a WWE episode on June 4, 2025, he shared that the tattoo holds much deeper significance than merely showing a preference for a soda brand.
Punk admitted that the tattoo has attracted a lot of attention over the years. He traced its inspiration back to the hardcore punk band Minor Threat and their guitarist Brian Baker.
He recounted, “There’s a band called Minor Threat. In an interview I read while in custody, guitarist Brian Baker was asked, ‘Do you have a Coca-Cola tattoo? Why do you have a Coca-Cola tattoo?’ He simply answered, ‘I like Coca-Cola.'”
This straightforward and anti-establishment response really struck a chord with the young Punk. “I’m punk rock, and I don’t like cola—I like Pepsi. Being a Midwestern kid at heart, I decided to get a Pepsi tattoo.”
Punk explained that the tattoo represents his identity. “That tattoo stands for me being straight edge, and that’s the core of it. While it may seem odd to have a corporate logo tattooed on you, it means much more to me than just a soft drink.”
Fan Take: This revelation adds a new layer of depth to CM Punk’s persona, highlighting his authenticity and connection to punk culture beyond wrestling. For WWE fans, understanding this personal side enriches Punk’s legacy and shows how individual identity can influence the sport’s storytelling.
