3 Min Read

The Godfather recently reflected on the night Owen Hart tragically passed away.

The WWE Hall of Famer appeared on the NO Contestling Ring Podcast, where he shared stories about his first encounter with the Undertaker, his WWE journey, and more.

During the interview, he was asked about his experience working with the Hart family during his wrestling career. The Godfather described both Brett and Owen Hart as some of the kindest people he ever met:

“I really love that family. Brett was a super cool guy. When he didn’t want to wrestle me as Daddy Shango because he thought it would harm his career, he still stood up for me and said, ‘No, I’ll work with him.’ Owen was the absolute best, a great guy. When I first went to Germany, he showed me how to order food. When I visited Japan for the first time, he taught me how to navigate the subway, the trolley, and the local cuisine. He was just a great person.”

The Godfather then spoke about the tragic event of Owen Hart’s death at the 1999 Over the Edge pay-per-view. At the time, The Godfather held the Intercontinental Championship and was scheduled to face Owen on the show, with plans to drop the title to him. Reflecting on that day, he said he spent the day with Owen but didn’t witness the fatal fall because he was backstage preparing for his entrance.

He said, “To be honest, my wife remembers more than I do. She saw Owen walk through the curtains looking blue and realized he was already gone. I really don’t remember much about it.”
