“I’m the kind of person who needs constant growth in my life, especially in this job,” Santana explained.
Following the conclusion of his storyline with former partner Ortiz, Santana was no longer featured on television, which led him to request a release from AEW—a request that was eventually granted after multiple attempts.
“I’m not the type of person to just sit back and collect a paycheck. That’s not me… I saw what was happening,” he added.
After several requests, AEW agreed to release him from his contract when he decided it was time to move on, and there was no dispute.
“Yeah, I asked a few times, and in the end, they allowed me to leave. I was like, ‘Thank you,'” Santana said.
Currently, Mike Santana is in the spotlight at the 2025 TNA Slammiversary, where the main event will be a TNA World Championship triple threat match featuring NXT’s Trick Williams and Joe Hendry at UBS Arena in New York.
