WWE and AAA Team Up to Challenge Alberto El Patron’s Former WWE Status

2 Min Read

WWE commentator Hugo Savinovich revealed that WWE is attempting to push Alberto El Patron out of AAA, despite him being considered one of the great legends in Lucha Libre. Although WWE acquired AAA three months ago, the company has largely avoided mentioning El Patron on their broadcasts.

In an interview with “Lucha Libre Online,” Savinovich stated that WWE wants El Patron to leave AAA.

He said, “What will happen to Alberto del Rio? He wasn’t even present at the AAA-WWE launch event in Los Angeles. AAA and WWE seem to be trying to push one of Lucha Libre’s most iconic figures out. Do integrity, sacrifice, loyalty, and hard work mean nothing?”

El Patron, known as Alberto del Rio in WWE, has had a turbulent history with the company. He was released in 2014 following backstage conflicts, rehired in 2015, and then released again in 2016 amid ongoing tensions. Outside WWE, he has made a significant impact in AAA, becoming one of its biggest stars. Despite this, WWE has avoided recognizing his contributions. Rumors of WWE rehiring El Patron were proven false, as WWE merely took over an existing AAA contract.

Alberto remains hopeful about returning to WWE, but despite the growing relationship between WWE and AAA, his comeback seems more uncertain than ever.

Fan Take: This situation highlights the complex dynamics between WWE and AAA and the challenges legendary wrestlers face within corporate wrestling structures. For WWE fans, it serves as a reminder that behind-the-scenes politics can greatly impact the careers of even the most celebrated athletes, potentially shaping the future of Lucha Libre within mainstream wrestling.
