Ring of Honor (ROH) is currently without a television deal, yet efforts are underway to secure a broadcast partner following AEW’s surprising success.
As reported by Fightful Select, Tony Khan had a specific financial expectation for ROH’s television rights. Although a formal proposal was made, it failed to meet Khan’s expectations. These discussions, however, prompted Warner Bros. Discovery to pursue agreements that would feature AEW Dynamite’s Triple Play on TRUTV every Friday at 10 PM, a time slot that was previously considered for ROH programming.
Sources indicate that AEW did not anticipate this arrangement but found common ground in the negotiations. Instead of introducing fresh ROH content, AEW opted to utilize existing Dynamite material to maximize a deal not initially included in the rights talks.
While there have been various inquiries from networks interested in ROH over the years, a TV contract remains unfinalized. There have been online speculations about a potential new show titled “AEW Shockwave,” but Fightful has verified that it’s merely a creative idea and not an actual project under development.
As it stands, Ring of Honor still lacks a dedicated television platform, but it has at least secured another weekly broadcast opportunity.
Fan Take: This development is crucial for wrestling fans as a stable TV deal would provide a consistent platform for ROH programming, potentially enhancing the overall landscape of professional wrestling. A successful integration could lead to increased viewership and fresh storylines, benefiting fans eager for more diverse wrestling content.
