WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg recently shared insights about his retirement match and revealed that he broke his hand during the bout. He addressed criticism stemming from how WWE handled his departure, which had sparked some complaints.
On his podcast “Car’s Cast,” Goldberg confirmed he sustained the injury during his World Heavyweight Championship match against Gunther in the main event on Saturday night. Despite the pain and his injury, Goldberg responded to critics by emphasizing the high quality of the match itself.
“I couldn’t have done it without Gunther. That kid is incredibly talented,” Goldberg remarked. “Being in the ring with him was a great experience and an honor. He made the match unforgettable. I really enjoyed it.”
Goldberg also criticized NBC and the Peacock broadcast for cutting off his post-match speech, suggesting it was a deliberate move to drive social media engagement.
“It might have been planned, especially since they had six months to prepare,” Goldberg said. “I expected it, as they’ve been quietly pushing social media. They keep viewers hooked on national TV with cliffhangers, then the rest of the speeches happen on social media—it’s nonsense.”
Fan Take: This news is significant for WWE fans as it highlights the genuine challenges and physical risks even veteran wrestlers like Goldberg face. Additionally, the behind-the-scenes tension about WWE’s broadcasting and social media strategies may impact how future events are presented and experienced by fans.
