Injury Forces Colten Gunn’s Exit, Gunns Withdrawn from AEW Tag Title Contender Tournament

2 Min Read

The Gunns made their return to AEW earlier this year and challenged the Heart Syndicate for the AEW World Tag Team Championship. Unfortunately, they will have to step back once again due to an injury suffered by Colten Gunn. During the July 19 episode of “AEW Collision,” Colten and his brother Austin faced off against Big Bill, Brian Keith, and their crew. Colten landed awkwardly and had to be assisted due to the injury.

According to “Fightful Select,” Colten’s recovery will take a significant amount of time, meaning the Gunns could not participate in the latest Tag Team Eliminator tournament. Although AEW initially hoped Colten’s injury wasn’t too serious and allowed time for healing, scheduling issues ultimately forced their withdrawal. The replacement teams have not been announced, but the FTR team ultimately won the tournament and earned a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championship at the upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door Pay-Per-View.

It is hoped that Colten’s injury is not severe, especially since Austin Gunn was sidelined for several months following his injury late last year. Similarly, Juice Robinson’s injuries previously affected the faction, leaving only Jay White healthy and active while others remained off the circuit.

Fan Take: This news is disappointing for AEW fans who were excited to see the Gunns compete, but it highlights the unpredictable nature of wrestling where injuries can impact even the strongest teams. It also opens opportunities for other contenders to rise, potentially shifting the dynamics of AEW’s tag team division in an exciting way.
