Sonya Deville Reveals He’s Stepped Away from Wrestling Following WWE Departure

3 Min Read

Sonya Deville has announced that she is currently stepping away from professional wrestling following her release from WWE. In a conversation with Chris Van Vriette, Deville expressed that she believes she has retired from the sport for now. While she hasn’t entirely closed the door on returning, she feels at peace with her current situation. Having spent a decade—from age 21 to 31—with WWE, her loyalty to the company runs deep, making the thought of wrestling for another organization emotionally challenging for her.

Deville described this loyalty as intense, and the idea of wrestling outside WWE feels like reopening an emotional wound. She identifies strongly with WWE, making it hard to envision competing anywhere else. She shared, “For now, definitely never say never, but right now I feel peaceful. I won’t lie, it almost feels like an open wound.”

Additionally, Deville revealed her growing passion for acting. Although she could return to the independent wrestling circuit and live comfortably like peers such as Matt Cardona and The Knights of the Order, her heart is now focused on pursuing acting. She acknowledged that staying in wrestling would be the easier path, but she is committed to following what truly inspires her in this new phase of life. She said, “Even with acting, I could easily go to the indies and live well like Matt Cardona and the Order, but my heart wants to act now. So, while continuing wrestling is the easier choice, I’m determined to stay true to what I want.”

Deville also remains open to the possibility of returning to MMA. Only time will tell if she makes a comeback to wrestling.
