Ted Dibiase Jr. has recently experienced a setback in his federal criminal case, which could significantly impact the course of the proceedings. The former WWE wrestler is facing numerous charges connected to the Mississippi welfare fraud scandal, including one count of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit theft, six counts of wire fraud, two counts of theft from federal programs, and four counts of money laundering. Originally set to go to trial this summer, Dibiase’s defense team requested a delay on July 2nd after the government provided 72 videos from 16 training sessions within the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS). The initial indictment accuses Dibiase of orchestrating a scheme to defraud the Mississippi Department of Human Services by securing at least five bogus contracts through his companies, Prickess Ventures LLC and Familiae Orientem LLC. These contracts allegedly siphoned funds from the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), which were then spent on personal items like homes, boats, and vehicles without delivering the promised services.
The defense argues that previous evidence is mostly irrelevant and that the newly released videos contradict the allegations, demonstrating that Dibiase did provide social services. One notable contract under scrutiny involves a million-dollar project called RISE, aimed at helping young people in urban areas. The indictment also points to suspicious wire transfers and asset purchases, including a Madison home Dibiase and his wife forfeited in 2023.
Complicating the case, Dibiase tested positive for Adderall and marijuana at the time of his arrest. His lawyer explained that the marijuana detection was from CBD gummies, and Dibiase admitted to using his brother’s Adderall prescription to manage ADHD without having his own prescription.
When approached by Wapt-TV outside court, Dibiase simply said, "Jesus loves you, brother. God bless you," before his lawyer cut short the interaction. Dibiase remains free on a $10,000 unsecured bond, pleads not guilty to all charges, and must notify the court of any address changes and follow all legal requirements while out on bond.
